Marriage Equality Korea
Marriage Equality Korea is a coalition dedicated to exposing the legal gaps and institutional discrimination faced by
LGBTQ+ families and advocating for equal family rights, including marriage equality. By increasing the visibility of
diverse families, including same-sex couples, the coalition works to advance both legal and policy reform as well as
broader social awareness and acceptance.
Through public wedding ceremonies and strategic litigation, Marriage Equality Korea has helped bring the issue of
marriage equality into mainstream public discourse in South Korea. The coalition continues its advocacy through a
variety of approaches, including legislative initiatives, legal action, public campaigns, and educational programs.
Most recently, it achieved a landmark victory in the appellate court ruling that recognized health insurance
dependent coverage for a same-sex spouse, marking an important step forward in challenging institutional
discrimination.
Under the slogan “Marriage for All, Until Love Wins,” Marriage Equality Korea continues to build solidarity and take
action toward a society where LGBTQ+ families can live as equal citizens with equal rights and recognition.
