The Queer Bible Commentary Translation and Publication Committee

The Queer Bible Commentary Translation and Publication Committee is a collaborative group of individuals who participated in every stage of the Korean publication of The Queer Bible Commentary, including translation, editorial review, publication, and crowdfunding. The committee’s work began with an initial translation project in 2015 and culminated in the publication of the Hebrew Bible volume in 2021 and the New Testament volume in 2022. United by the goal of publishing a Korean edition of The Queer Bible Commentary, the committee consists of 33 contributors based in South Korea as well as across the United States, Canada, Singapore, and other countries.

The committee continues its work with the belief that The Queer Bible Commentary can contribute to a more inclusive and reciprocal understanding of the relationship between religion and LGBTQ+ people, moving beyond perspectives of exclusion. Despite strong opposition and pressure from some sectors of the Korean church following the announcement of the publication, the committee has remained committed to presenting diverse interpretations of scripture and sharing messages of liberation with women and LGBTQ+ people who have long been marginalized and excluded.

This vision and commitment resonated strongly with readers and supporters, leading to a highly successful crowdfunding campaign that achieved 878% of its original funding goal through Tumblbug.

퀴어성서주석 번역출판위원회

퀴어성서주석 번역출판위원회는 2015년 시작된 『퀴어성서주석』 초벌 번역을 비롯해, 2021년 히브리성서편과 2022년 신약성서편 출판에 이르기까지 번역·감수·출판·펀딩 전 과정에 참여한 이들로 구성된 공동체입니다. 위원회는 한국어판 『퀴어 성서 주석』 발간을 목표로, 국내를 비롯해 미국·캐나다·싱가포르 등 세계 각지에 흩어져 있는 33명의 참여자로 이루어져 있습니다.

위원회는 『퀴어 성서 주석』이 종교와 성소수자의 관계를 배제가 아닌 상호적이고 포용적인 시선으로 다시 읽는 데 기여할 수 있다는 믿음으로 활동을 이어오고 있습니다. 출간 소식이 알려진 이후 한국 교회 일부의 강한 반발과 압박 속에서도, 보다 다양한 관점의 성서 해석을 통해 오랫동안 배제되어 온 여성과 성소수자에게 해방의 메시지를 전하고자 하는 목표를 분명히 해왔습니다.

이러한 문제의식과 시도는 독자들의 공감을 얻어, 텀블벅을 통해 진행된 펀딩에서 목표 금액의 878%를 달성하는 성과로 이어졌습니다.
